The following information will help you to understand the information throughout this website and aims to make everything as clear as possible.
Legal expenses insurance
When we say that you don’t need to buy legal expenses insurance, we’re referring to the legal insurance that is commonly sold with motor vehicle insurance and only relates to compensation for injury in a road accident. YourKey’s services do not replace the broader type of legal expenses insurance that covers other legal issues, which you may wish to buy separately.
When we refer to the restrictions of legal expenses insurance, we’re referring to all the policies we have ever seen. For example, we have read the small print for many legal expenses policies and they all state that they will only support your case if the following applies:
- You are making a claim against the person who caused the accident (i.e. the accident wasn’t your fault)
- Your case has a good chance of success (i.e. you’re likely to win, in which case the other party will have to pay your fees anyway!)
- You have an injury worth at least £1,000 OR you have suffered financial losses of at least £10,000 in England and Wales (£3,000 in Scotland and Northern Ireland)
If you see any policy that does not work in this way then we’d be really interested to hear it, and to amend the information on our website accordingly.
Free vehicle recovery, repair and replacement
YourKey can only arrange vehicle recovery, vehicle replacement and vehicle repair without cost to you when there is someone else to blame for the accident. The person to blame must have the financial means or insurance to cover these costs direct.
If you are responsible for the accident then we will suggest that you seek assistance from your insurance company. Alternatively, we can arrange these services at your expense through our business partners.
