I received an e-mail from you dated 21st July 2008 with a policy number. I’m sorry but I don’t understand. I took insurance out for my moped with another insurance company, where did you come in?
It is so easy to miss the offer of free legal expenses insurance on the websites we work with. We back up the offer on those websites and provide the legal cover without cost. We can do this by providing a very necessary accident support service which fills th ecracks left by your insurance cover. When we arrange hire or repair we earn commission. You have the support you need, and the insurance without cost.

How can I claim and what details do I need?
Thanks Jake. All you need to do is call Your Key in the event of an accident and we will look after the rest. You do not make a claim by filling in a form, as you would with a home policy. We will arrange the services you need, and line up an experienced solicitor.
The number we sent you is both your policy and membership number.
The most important thing is to save our number on your mobile - 08000 114 114 - and we will take care of everything.

Sounds like a good deal, Thanks Gemma

I was obtaining bike insurance for my husband and recieved an email to state we had free legal cover sounds too good to be true as you never get something for free. We had to use Legal cover when he was knocked off his bike over 5 years ago now and it was well worth the money. Are you sure it is free as we may take out an insurance policy elsewhere and I want to make sure he is covered should the unthinkable happen.
Hi Anita, thanks for your question.
The greatest challenge for us when explaining our offering is that the accident legal expenses insurance is free. It is free this year, and we will renew it free in the future. All you have to do is make sure you tell us if your contact details change.
Legal cover is usually sold by insurers and brokers when a vehicle is insured, and the legal cover is limited to that vehicle. Many bikers have at least one car, so they buy two at least two policies. Our one policy covers any accident to our member and family, so you do not need to buy any policies at all.
Legal cover is sold as an optional extra, as the basic insurance quote has to be as low as possible so the insurer can compete on the comparative web sites. Then you go through to arrange your policy you are presented with a menu of add ons.
If an accident occurs and services such as hire and repair are provided, there are commissions to be earned, as in the referral of most business these days. Rather than sell the insurance and take the commissions, we give you the policy free, we provide a free help line, and if services are arranged we earn our commission. We think ours is a fair business model.
So yes, the insurance policy is free, and it means you need not buy accident legal cover again.

Thank you for your prompt response, I will not need to take our this type of policy on my car or my husbands buggy then as stated this policy will
cover all three vehicles, absolutely brilliant.
Kind regards
Anita

I’m biased. the problem being that there are so many con artists out there these days how do we know we are not gonig to be lumbered with some big solicitors bills if we use you to make a claim?
Hi Steven, and thanks for your comment. The reason Your Key was established was to deal with concerns like yours. In a difficult time who do you turn to?

How can I use/contact Your Key if I took out insurance with a Company not on the list of Tesco supplied quotations?
Peter, all you need to do is call 0800 0 114 114 for Your Key accident support.
It does not matter that you only took a quote, as that was the promise on the Tesco Compare site. Take a quote and receive free legal expenses insurance.
Best tip is to save our number under “accident” on family mobiles, and your breakdown insurance number under “breakdown.” All protection is then in place.
Good luck and take care from the Your Key team.

Thanks for your previous prompt reply.
Is your service just for myself or does it include all family members who may use my vehicle or have ones of their own?
The legal cover includes your family and vehicle passengers. Family means your wife/partner and children up to 21 years of age who live with you. The legal cover is for any accident, so is not tied to any particular vehicle or activity.
This is why the Your Key policy means you can make

I’m sorry but I have read all the comments but I’m still a little concerned.
So your saying the following?
-I dont need the legal cover my policy offers me as an extra?
-All I need to do is save your number to my mobile and call you if i ever have an accident and you will take care of everything?
-I will get 100% of any compensation?
-You will look after all my needs ensuring I get a car and fully looked after?
I’m sorry but I just cant believe this is free. You must understand we need to be sure we are fully covered.
Thanks
Kieran
Hi Kieran,
All good questions, and ones we are often asked. Let me answer in QandA fashion.
Q: What is Your Key?
A: An after accident support service which delivers all the services you will need if you are unfortunate enough to have been involved in an accident. These services include vehicle recovery, hire and repair, plus the legal expenses insurance necessary to fight for compensation without fear of legal fees.
Q: What is legal expenses insurance?
A: It covers the legal fees if you have to bring a compensation claim after an accident. It is sometimes called legal cover or legal protection.
Q: How can the insurance be free?
A: It is free to you as Your Key pays the premium. If our after accident services are used by members we earn commission. We do not increase the costs after an accident, we simply provide the services in a convenient package through our freephone number ? 08000 114 114.
Q: Do you only cover me when riding my bike?
A: No. We cover you for any accident, and the same cover is in place for family members and your passengers. We insure you, not your vehicles, so one policy is enough.
Q: I already have legal expenses insurance?
A: If you bought this cover when insuring a vehicle, even at a cost up to

Q. I noticed that one of your replies to question stated you are covered if it is not your fault. So if it is my fault (close call) then who pays for what? Will i have to pay you out of my own money to cover the solicitors fees?
A. The quick answer is that legal expenses insurance will support a case for compensation if it has a reasonable chance of success. If you are partially to blame you can still succeed in part, so you will be supported. You would only have to pay legal fees if you went ahead with a case and lost, and the insurers had already said they would not support the case. So no surprises, and certainly no payment to YourKey.

hi, it sounds all to good to be true, in plain english, if i was involved in a accident and it was clearly my fault, who pays the legal fees to cover the other party claim and the court costs etc etc i would be lumbered with.
Regards Yvonne
Thanks Yvonne,
If an accident is your fault, then your own insurance covers the cost. That is the purpose of your insurance, to cover your liability to others. The extent to which your vehicle and possessions are covered depends on the level of cover you bought.
If you are to blame YourKey can help, but you or your insurer will have to pay for the services you need.
YourKey comes into its own if someone else is at fault. Then the services are paid for by the person to blame, or their insurer, and we will provide, and through the free legal insurance cover the cost of, a solicitor.
So in plain English, your own insurance covers your liability to others, and we fight for you when someone else is to blame.
You might also just need help and advice, and no matter what the circumstances we will be happy to oblige.
Finally, the policy and membership of YourKey is absolutely free. We earn commission if we arrange services for our members. These are the same commissions usually earned by insurance companies and brokers, and of course the difference is that they charge you for the legal expenses insurance. I hope you agree our model is fairer, and cheaper.
Thanks for getting in touch.

Does your legal expenses insurance mean that I could also reclaim the cost of my policy excess, if I was not to blame for the accident?
Simple answer is yes, if someone else is to blame. In such a situation there is no need to trouble your own insurer.
What many people misunderstand is the role of their insurance company. You must have insurance to cover your liability to others if you are at fault. The extent of cover for your own vbike and gear depends on the level of cover you buy.
If someone else is to blame then YourKey is the service which recovers all your losses.

hi i have a question, my son is about to buy a jump bike his only 13yrs old, does he need to get public liability insurance to cover him in case he shud ride into someone or a car etc.
Thanks Yvonne for a rather difficult question.
A child can be sued for the damage they do if they can be proved negligent, but it is easier to prove negligence against an adult. Negligence is failing to take reasonable care for those who might be affected by our actions. So belting down the high street on a bicycle might seem risky to you and I, but great fun to your son.
If an action is considered against a child the two questions are is there any insurance, and can the parents be blamed. The questions are asked to identify if there will be any funds to pay a succesful claim. Most solicitors would not advise an action against a 13 year old unless there were funds available to pay any compensation, and pay the solicitor.
So in an odd way it might be best not to insure your son for public liability, because if insurance is in place you are almost inviting a case against him if he can be shown to be at fault. I had a quick look at bicycle insurance, and the two I looked at would only provide public liability insurance for 14 year olds.
So maybe the risk is not insurable at a sensible cost.
You should make sure he is properly trained, wears the helmet, and then like all parents you just hope.
Not insuring a motorcycle or car is not an option, as the law requires insurance. The aim is to insure you can pay for the damage you do.
Finally, if your son was involved ion an accident which was the fault of someone else, thenm Your key would help him in his own compensation case.
A little vague I know, but hope that helps.

Dear Sir or Madam.
I have received and kept the poicy that you sent me.
? I have taken out a TP F&T, on my motorcycle, it does not include pillion passenger,
With your policy, can I take a pillion passenger and would he or she be covered as a third party, in ANY eventuallity ? or only for legal expenses involved from whatever incident occurs
regards Rob.
Thanks Rob.
To carry a pillion you must take out insurance on the bike to include that risk. Our legal cover is quite separate from the insurance on the vehicle. The legal cover through Your Key would allow your pillion to bring a compensation case if an accident was the fault of someone else, or you for that matter, but it is legal cover only.
The insurance you must have on any vehicle is to cover the damage you might do through your own fault. legal cover allows you to bring a case for compensation after an accident which is the fault of someone else. The legal cover means you do not have to worry about the legal fees, win or lose.
There is some useful stuff on pillions on our blog at http://www.yourkey.info/category/ridingtips
Good luck and take care.

I went to a website to compare insurance on a vehicle I do not own at present, to find out what kind of costs I will be paying and yet I have no bike, or taken out any insurance as of late so Im very surprised to get this email.
Thanks Chris,
You receive the aacident support and legal expenses policy from Your Key, just because you took a quote. That offer is an indication of the competition between comparison sites.
As our policy covers ANY ACCIDENT it means you do not have to buy legal cover when you insure any vehicle.
Good luck with your hunt for good value insurance, and do have a look at our insurance advice blog at http://www.yourkey.info/category/insurance-advice

in previous responses you have indicated that you (your key) earn a commission as oposed to charging a fee. Is this commission earned on top of the claim or do you earn a % of the claim and if so what is the % of the claim?
Thanks David,
YourKey takes nothing from its members. If you can claim compensation because someone else is at fault, neither YourKey nor the service providers we use will take anything from your compensation.
The commission we earn is for arranging the services you need. If we arrange a replacement bike or car while yours is repaired, the hirer pays us commission, and not you. This is the same commission your insurance company or broker would receive, but the difference is that we do not charge

If I am hit by an uninsured driver do you cover me for claiming against them?
Yes, we will handle and support such a case for you. The same answer applies if the other driver is untraced.

hi,i had just bought the motorbike insurance together with the legal cost before you forward your email to me. in this case, is it possible for me to cancel the legal cost from the insurance company. as far as i know, there is a 14 days cooling period. and if i do, what am i suppose to do after that. please advise and reply soon.thank you.
ronald
Dear Ronald,
You are perfectly entitled to cancel the legal cover you bought with your vehicle insurance. Your cover with Your Key is in place, and you have our confirmation email and policy number.
Please remember that our policy covers any accident which means any vehicle or activity, and we renew automatically each year. There is no need to buy this type of cover again.
You are the customer so cancel the legal cover.
Let me know how much you paid. We say it costs up to
June 20th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Hi, I understand about the legal cover, but can you confirm about roadside recovery.
If I have an accident or breakdown on the road, do I still need to take separate breakdown cover provided via my insurance company, as I do not want to pay for recovery at roadside?
Thanks
Good question as it is important to understand.
Roadside recovery is usually a term used for breakdown insurance, which means insurance to deal with mechanical problems. So yes you do need roadside recovery or breakdown cover. Most of these policies do not help you after an accident.
Your Key does its work after an accident. The legal cover is free, and we can then arrange the services you need. If someone else is to blame the cost of those services is covered by their insurance, as we use a credit hire and credit repair service. Recovery after an accident is very rarely required. We cannot arrange this on a credit basis, which means you will be asked to pay, and then within your compensation case this payment can be reimbursed.
So if you want cover for mechanical cover do buy it when insuring your policy, or buy iy separately. Do have a look at our advice at http://www.yourkey.info/frontend/wordpress/90

hi, could you please advise me whether you do legal cover for car insurance? if you do, then i will come to you or will you recommend me a company that deals with free legal cover. please reply soon. thank you.
Thank you Susan,
It is you who need legal cover, and not your vehicle. Our cover is for any accident, regardless of vehicle or activity, so there is no need to buy cover for a car, or any other vehicle you drive.
The insurance industry sells legal cover with each vehicle you drive, so if you have more than one vehicle you have more than one policy. Our policy covers any accident, therefore any vehicle and any activity.
Please remember we not only cover you, as the cover includes your husband/partner, children living at home up to 21 years of age, passengers and pillions. If there is someone who falls outside this group they can join YourKey without cost at http://www.yourkey.info/become-a-member
We are interested to know how much you save each year, and remember our policy is renewed automatically each year.

Thanks Martin,
Nothing for you to do as you came onto our database when you took an online quote. If your details change please keep us up to date at http://www.yourkey.info/change-your-details
We will renew the policy each year, and again you need take no action.
Do save our number on your own and family phones, just in case 0800 0114114 or 0330 0225210 - the 0330 number is usually the cheaper to call.

From your reply to Martin Brown:
“…0800 0114114 or 0330 0225210 - the 0330 number is usually the cheaper to call”
An 0800 number is a free call so why is the 0330 number cheaper? Or is this a typo?
December 6th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Thank you Martin,
We set up an 0800 and we pay for the call. The complication is that mobile operators charge you a connection fee to use an 08 number. Also some landline call bundles exclude 08 numbers, so what was once a free number to call means a charge to the caller.
An 0330 number costs you the same as calling an ordinary 01 number, so the normal landline charge, which means it fits into your mobile call bundle.
We thought it fair to bring this to member’s attention, and give you the option.
Thanks for your question.

Am about to renew my insurance and considering legal cover. Now I am happy that key will cover me if I am not at fault, but what happens where blame is attributable say 50:50? Would I then have to pay for a proportion of the legal fees incurred?
Thanks,
Simon
January 21st, 2010 at 8:56 pm
Thanks Simon,
The legal cover with YourKey will support a case for compensation with a reasonable chance of success. So in your example, you will win 50% of your case, and the other guy will win 50% of his. The action for your 50% will be supported by the legal cover, and you rown vehicle insurance will pick up the cost of the other guy’s action.
You get exactly the same cover with us as the cover people usually buy from their insurer or broker.
Some people think that legal cover is not necessary, as you can always use a solicitor on a no win no fee basis. In our experience the legal cover is more likely to support you in a difficult case. Another good reason to be with YourKey.
Tell us if you need more help.
