OFT approves car repair and servicing code of practice

OFT press release 22 November 2011 - 126/11

Booking in a vehicle for work at a garage can be worrying. How much will it cost and what else will be wrong? Our personal feeling is that pricing and quality of service have improved as times are hard in the motor trade, and they are working hard for your business.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has announced some good news. The OFT can approve codes of practice under its Consumer Codes Approval Scheme. The code which gets the thumbs up is the Motor Industry Service and Repair Code. The code applies to cars and vans.car-repair-code practice Motor Codes

Motorcycle helmet safety - SHARP

April 28th, 2011

Are you wearing the right motorcycle helmet?

20 April 2011 news release.

SHARP released motorcycle helmet safety ratings for another 28 motorcycle helmets bringing the total tested to 247.

Progress may be slow, but the testing looks thorough, and of course the results must be correct. The manufacturers are also given the opportunity to respond to the results.

The Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme provide advice on helmet care and helmet fit. The advice is that a helmet has a life of five years, and only three if used regularly. If you personalise your helmet with stickers and paints is said to be best left to the professionals to avoid damage and weakening.

We are interested to hear if the advice and testing at SHARP has persuaded you to discard your helmet and replace it.
