How YourKey works for you
January 6th, 2009How does YourKey work for you?![]()
You have to buy insurance on your bike or car to cover your liability to others. So when you say you are covered, it means you are covered against the claims of others. If someone else is to blame for an accident then you need independent help to fight your corner, and it is here that YourKey steps in to help.
First we check if you need help to recover a vehicle, or arrange for replacement or repair. Then we arrange for an experienced solicitor to fight for compensation for any injury and the inevitable loss and expense.
We will independently guide you through what can be a maze.
If there is someone to blame, you can be reimbursed for the cost of recovery. Hire and repair will be paid for by insurance company of the person at fault. You will not have to worry about legal fees, as your free legal cover deals with that.
If you are at fault we will advise you. We can arrange the services you need, but you or your insurance company will have to foot the bill.
So how do we do this. YourKey earns commission if we arrange services for you. These are the same commissions as your insurer or broker would earn, the difference being that YourKey makes no charge for your legal cover.
This is why YourKey is your first call after any accident. Save 0800 0 114 114 on your phone and those used by your family, as our service includes your family too. For a quick reminder of the service click here, and for full details and a copy of the legal policy please click here.

I had an accident in 2005 when a third party hit me. I claimed through my insurer and had to pay an excess which my insurer intially refused to re-claim for me with their claim from the other driver’s insurance. They said this was because I did not have legal expenses cover! (which I then had an argument about because I thought I’d been quoted with it!)
Anyway, would you be able to help retrieve an excess payment in a situation such as this?

Hi Colin,
Many people misunderstand the role of their own insurer. You buy insurance to cover your liability to others, and not to protect you. If an accident happens, and it is someone else’s fault, you need independent help and advice. This is exactly what we do.
The policy from YourKey covers the legal cost of bringing a compensation action after an accident where there has been an injury. Even if there is no injury, we will certainly help. Sometimes you might just need to be pointed in the right direction.
As we use comparison sites more and more we will drive down the cost of insurance. This also drives down the quality of service, and that is why an organisation like YourKey is very necessary.

Query - am i covered for my car allthough my membership was through a qoute on bike insurance
Dear Ronald,
Our legal cover is for any accident, which means any vehicle, and any
activity.
The insurers sell these policies with each vehicle policy, and limit the
cover to that vehicle so you have to buy a policy with each vehicle you
insure. Because we make no charge our policy is for you, for any accident,
and we include family members too.
We will renew automatically each year, and for families with two vehicles
to insure we think you save enough to buy your breakdown cover.

Thank you Jason,
Legal expenses insurance is designed to allow you to bring an action for
compensation against whoever is to blame for an accident. Yes, we cover
any accident, but someone has to be to blame for you to seek compensation,
such as loss of earnings.
The point of the insurance is that it covers your liability to pay legal
costs.
I hope that helps, and do please contact me if you need more explnantion.
