Legal cover at a price

October 15th, 2008

You know when you are buying insurance, you are  always sold legal protection or legal cover. It adds up to £25 to the policy, Legal cover, legal protection, legal expenses insuranceand most people buy it. You are not sure what it is, but it sounds like a good idea. It is sold on every policy you buy, and it adds up.

Your Key offers an alternative. Free legal protection.

So where is the catch? There is no catch, free means free.

Your Key will receive commission if we arrange hire or repair for you after an accident. This is the same commission as your insurance company or broker will earn. The difference is that our legal protection is free.  That looks like a good bargain to us, and we hope you agree.

Our one policy covers any accident, and therefore any vehicle, and we renew it automatically each year. You do not need to buy legal protection again.

  1. YourKey team Says:

    Dear David,
    Thank you for contacting YourKey.
The legal cover you have with us covers you for all accidents, so it does
not matter what vehicle you are driving, nor what activity you are doing.
So no need to tell us about a new vehicle, thanks.
Our cover is a supplement to your vehicle insurance, so again it does not
    matter which insurer you use.
Do check the links below, as the cover extends to your wife/partner,
children at home under 21 years of age, plus pillion and passengers.
We will renew your cover automatically each year.
I am interested to know how much you are quoted for legal cover, as the
average is creeping up to £30. If an insurer says legal cover is included
in the policy, still say you do not want it, and they will give you a
discount. “Included” means you are paying for it.

  2. David Says:

Thank you for getting back to me.with reguards to legal cover they were
coming in between £25 to £30
    cheers
    Dave

  3. Danny Says:

    Hi,
I have just recieved a renewal quote for my house contents insurance. In this quote
my insurer has included home legal expences cover at extra cost.
Is this something I need? or am I already covered under the yourkey policy?
The yourkey policy you offer is a great idea and is very much appreciated, thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Danny

  4. YourKey team Says:

Legal expenses insurance can cover different types of legal problem, and one policy rarely fits all. The YourKey policy is designed to recover compensation after any accident. That means your cover with us is for an accident in any vehicle, and any other activity. The legal expenses insurance offered on your house is usually different, and often excludes accidents, particularly motor accidents. The insurers want you to buy legal cover with each policy you buy.
So what might be covered. Your liability to others through problems on or with the property are covered by home insurance. That will cover a tree
falling, or the post man tripping on your paving flags.
Decent legal expenses insurance on a home policy should allow you to bring certain legal actions. It might cover employment disputes, as well as
problems with neighbours. Have a long look at the exclusions, as it is here you can judge the strength of a policy. You should then weigh up the
likelihood of needing support for legal costs in those ares, and decide if it is worth the price.
So the short answer is that our policy is bound to be different from legal expenses cover in a home policy, but like anything you buy you should ask
if you need it, and if you do is the price right.
Let us know if you need any more help.
    Best wishes
    YourKey team

  5. Peter Says:

Query - Do I still have free legal cover with your organistion?
Does is cover my car as well as my motorcycle?
    Is this for life?

  6. Mark Thompson Says:

    Dear Peter,

The short answer is yes to all three questions.

Our legal cover is renewed each year automatically, and I confirm you have cover
    with us.
Because our policy covers any accident it covers any vehicle. It also covers your
wife/partner, children living at home under 21 years of age, and your passengers and
    pillion.
We make the policy as broad as possible as we charge no premium. We earn commission
if we arrange the services necessary after an accident, the commission being the
same as that usually taken by insurance companies and brokers.
I will be interested to know how much you are being quoted for legal cover.

    Regards
    Mark

  7. Peter Says:

    Dear Mark,

Thanks for your response and confirmation. I just wanted to make sure of these
issues before renewing my insurance. I have not taken out legal cover in the last 2
years since becoming a member of your key and just wnated to make sure I still have
cover as I have not heared anything for a while.

My latest renewal has quoted me £24.00 for legal cover though.

    Regards
    Peter
