YourKey is your accident support service. We are separate from your vehicle insurance policy, but very necessary because:

* Your vehicle insurance covers your liability to others, and may not cover you.
* Buying insurance on price often means limited support for you.
* You may want to protect your no claims bonus.
* Your breakdown cover will not help after an accident.
* You need independent advice and guidance at a difficult time.

Our legal cover includes any accident, your family members, your pillion and passengers.

We renew your cover each year at no cost, and all you have to do is make sure we have your contact details.

There are a few simple steps should you need to contact Your Key:

* Save our helpline number on phones used by you and your family group - 0330 022 5210 or 08000 114 114 - as “accident.”
* Your Key deals with accidents not breakdown. Do buy a good breakdown policy, and save that to phones too.
* Make sure we have your current contact details, and to update us please click here.

Thankyou for the e-mail. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to ride the bike yet as it is still at the garage and we are having problems with parts. I’ll store your number as you suggest. I hope I will never need it. Have a nice day.

    Thank You !

  4. Pierre Mathiot Says:

Thank you for the free cover which I would like to use. Do I have to activate this legal cover?
Also I would like to ask if Your Key has handled many claims up to date and were they successful?
    Kind regards,
    Pierre

    Thank you for contacting us.
You received our service and policy after taking an insurance quotation. Your details are held on our database, so there is no action to take. If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident simply call 0800 011 4114 OR 0330 022 5210, and we will do our very best to help. We do help our members with services and compensation claims, but the most important role is explaining how their own insurance works, and the action necessary.

Thank you very much for the reminder of ‘Your Key’ legal cover. I am just
renewing my vehicle insurance and am benefiting from my membership with Your
Key. I am saving approximately £25 by not taking out legal cover. Thanks
    for this service.

    Yours truly,
    Fred

  8. A R Borthwick Says:

I note your service covering my motorbike, does it extend to my car as well?

My 2 sons/wifes are interested in the service as well, how do I/they go about joining with they’re own vehicles?
(one son/wife have 1 car each, the other son has a m/bike & car, his wife - a car)

  9. YourKey team Says:

The reason for confusion is that insurance companies and brokers sell legal cover with each vehicle they insurer. The cover is limited to the use of that vehicle, so you have to buy a policy with each vehicle.
YourKey provides the same level of cover, but we cover you for any accident. That means the policy with YourKey is for any vehicle and any activity. So if you have two vehicles we will save you enough to buy your breakdown insurance.
Your wife is covered under your policy with us, and so are your son’s provided they are under 21 years of age, and live with you. If they fall outside this test they should sign up free on this website at http://www.yourkey.info/become-a-member
Legal cover is necessary to recover for injury and loss after an accident. You need the cover, not your vehicle.
Finally, please remember we renew the policy automatically each year without any action on your part.
    Thanks for getting in touch.
    Regards
    YourKey team

    Thanks for the reminder.

  11. keith P. Says:

How do you make your money/income?

  12. YourKey team Says:

    Thanks Keith,
We give an explanation in most of our emails, and on our website at http://www.yourkey.info/key-explained
If you are in an accident which is the fault of someone else, most people phone their own insurance company or broker. The services you need will be arranged, like hire, repair, and a solicitor, and the insurer receives commission. What the insurer and broker have also done is sell you legal cover at too high a price.
We think that is greedy, so we give you the legal cover free, and take the commission if we line up those services for you.
Because our cover is for any accident and includes family members, we will save most people enough money to buy breakdown cover.
We think our deal is fairer, but it does depend on YourKey members calling us first. Our new 0330 number is best from mobiles, so save it now under “accident” just in case - 0330 022 5210.
    We hope that helps.
Take care and best wishes from the YourKey team

Hi, Thanks for reminding me about your key, and what it is for I had forgot all about it,regards Michael.

PS. Good you send me some more keys please, as I have given them out to other people.

  15. Gary Martin Says:

To be certain of exactly what benefits YourKey brings & how they can be accessed, please can you provide a hypothetical scenario that would show what your services would be in the event of a collision etc? If not, then maybe a FAQ and answer list to assist.
    Many thanks,

  16. YourKey team Says:

    Thanks Mike,
If you do give cards to others please make sure they sign up online at http://www.yourkey.info/become-a-member
They must be members of YourKey if we are to help them.
    Thanks for your enthusiasm.

  17. Colin Y Says:

Good to know that you are there if or when I need you!

  18. Michael Gammon Says:

Hi, I have given the Key cards, got a good response from the people I give them to. I think what you are doing is a very good idea. At least there is a body out there to help us out if it is needed.Regards Michael

  19. martin Says:

Could you tell me exactly what the commision is & where it comes from?

    Ta,

  20. YourKey team Says:

These commissions have been around for years, just as they are in many business relationships. With the cost of legal cover increasing we looked at the arrangements from your point of view, the person paying the premiums.
If services, such as vehicle hire and repair, are arranged for you after an accident commissions are usually paid. If we arrange those services, the commission is paid by the company dealing with the hire or repair to us. There is no cost to you as these are the commissions usually paid to insurance companies and brokers.
We make no charge to you, and do not take any of your compensation.
We think it greedy to charge for legal cover and receive the commissions. We give you free legal cover, which means we pay the premium, and then receive the commissions from the service providers, not you, if we help you.
    Seems fair to us.
    YourKey team

  21. Martin Says:

I take it your fees are around 90% then, as you seem to hide them.

  22. YourKey team Says:

    Thanks Martin,

I have confused you I think, so will change the reply on the website.

We do not charge you anything, or take a percentage of your compensation.
The commissions are paid to us by the companies which repair and hire
vehicles, and by solicitors if we refer a case. My point is that these commissions are currently paid to the insurance
companies and brokers, and they charge you for legal cover. If we are contacted first after an accident and
we arrange the services, then we receive the commission. That then allows us to give you the legal cover free.

I must admit giving something free is a challenge, as people are naturally suspicious. People have been buying legal cover for years, on each vehicle they insure, and not ever questioned it. When offered free legal cover people get interested and want to know what it is all about.

  23. Martin Says:

Thanks Mark - yeah, think it will be worth you finding a way to put that simply on the site - and your outgoing emails. After all - it is a selling point! (or is that a giving point?)

Thanks for explanation - I’ll stick your number in my book.

    Thanks again… all the best,

    Martin.

  24. lynne Says:

Do you provide legal cover if the accident was my fault?

  25. YourKey team Says:

    Thanks for your question Lynne.
The insurance you must have on a vehicle is called third party insurance. That pays for the damage you do which is your fault, and that includes the legal costs.
You need our additional legal cover if you want to take action against someone else if they are at fault. Claiming on your own insurance makes no sense if someone else is to blame, as once your insurer writes a cheque your premium will rise at next renewal, and your record is blemished. Insurance companies work on payment rather than fault.
Have a look at our explanation of insurance, as you are not the only one who is confused.

  26. ronald Says:

    hi,
there is a question i like to ask you. do you deal with stolen/damaged motorbike? recently, my bike was stolen and was recovered by the police the next day but the bike was badly damaged. thank you.

    ronald C

  27. Your Key team Says:

    Dear Ronald,
The legal cover with Your Key is to help you recover compensation from someone who is at fault for an accident. I am afraid you will have to rely on your own insurance, and hopefully you added fire and theft to your third party cover.
The other policy is that where the thief is succesfully prosecuted, the Court sentencing him can make a compensation order against the thirf.
Hope that helps, and good luck.
